Short and Sweet

Hey all!

This is going to be the shortest blog post ever but I thought I should give a quick update since we're down to the last lap of Baby Gate 2012! Also I might feel just teeny bit guilty for my pissy facebook status from last night....actually I don't feel guilty about that at all, but I am still capable of some rational thought so I do understand that people just really want to know what's going on. If you're one of the those people I viciously attacked, I apologize. I completely understand your state of mind because trust me, no one is feeling more impatient right now than I am.

So here's the latest. Yesterday and today are my due date(s) YAYYYYYY!!! But I'm sitting at my desk, writing to you and being a total biatch on facebook so that means Eleni is not here yet BOOOOOO!!!

But I AM excited to report that for the last day and a half I've been feeling like I've been hit by a truck. So that must mean something right? If you've been through labour before please feel free to share your story about how you felt when you first went into labour....I won't be annoyed and I promise I won't attack you. I'm genuinely curious because I know it's different for everyone but I just find it odd that I've been having symptoms for so long yet I'm still not in the hospital. Could this all just be psychological? Or is Eleni just a bit of a procrastinator like her mommy? Or maybe she's planning an over dramatic entrance...which could also be attributed to her mommy.....hmm....

It's 10am Saturday morning here which means my parents, my brother and his girlfriend should be landing at the Athens airport right about now. YAYYYYY!!!! They'll be here on the island by about 4pm today so I'm counting down the hours! I've already emailed my brother to say I feel pretty crappy today but nothing that makes me think we need to go to the hospital. But that if they manage to get off the plane, collect their bags and get outside of the airport without seeing me, then they know to take a taxi to the hospital. I definitely have a very slow waddle for a swagger right now but I should be able to make it across a parking lot before they panic and get into a taxi. Lets hope so anyway!

So that's about all. No baby yet but I'm definitely not feeling good so maybe that means something's happening. I almost hate to say "maybe something's happening" because I feel like I've said that so much over the last week and a half and then nothing happened. We'll see. Anyhoo, I think I'll wake Antonis up and see if he'll take me for an 'early' morning swim to try to get things moving....I know 10am shouldn't be considered early but for him it's still practically last night so I might not be successful in this endeavor.

OH, and sorry for the lack of pictures lately. I've packed my camera into my hospital bag which is now waiting patiently in the trunk of our car. We decided to sneak the bags up in the middle of the night so that when I do go into labour we can either silently slip away in the night, or pretend we're just off to the beach if it's during the day. Sneaky sneaky. It probably won't work though. My mother-in-law probably has the house bugged so she'll know immediately if we're on our way out the door. That reminds me, I should really check that basket of crib sheets she brought over the other day.....

Have a great weekend!!

Yesterday's Dr's Appointment

Hello everyone! You're all looking beautiful today!

So I thought I would update you about my doctor's appointment yesterday. My "last" doctor's appointment. I use the term "last" loosely since I'm beginning to feel like I'll be lucky if I have this baby by Christmas!

Just kidding...I'm not even due yet

Anyhoo, we had our last doctor's appointment yesterday and I feel it's important to tell you all

NO I DID NOT HAVE THE BABY YESTERDAY SO PLEASE STOP ASKING ME THAT!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh......and I can breathe again without feeling like I need to burn something down...

I don't know if I mentioned it on here, I don't think I did, but anyway we mentioned it to a few people around here in the village that we were going to Mytilini on Monday morning for a doctor's appointment. As we were away (for 2 hours....), the local topic of conversation became all about "Did you hear? Tara and Antonis just had their baby! Yeah. This morning!"

a;sldkjfas;kjd ;fqwurvfpseoiuffakljsgfsa;ljf;alsfj j;sakf;kl!!!!!!! (I guess writing in all Caps didn't get all of the aggression out after all...)

So we get back from Mytilini and are relaxing on the beach when Antonis' cell phone rings and we are given our first Congratulations. Here's how that conversation went (translated into English obviously....except for the word 'malaka' which means asshole but is also used when you're talking to a friend so it doesn't reeeeaally mean asshole anymore, although it does still mean asshole but they mean it in a good way...sort of...anyway, this is how Greeks tend to talk to each other)

Antonis: yeah?
Friend: Hey! Congratulations malaka!
Antonis: for what malaka?
Friend: for the baby malaka! You went to Mytilini this morning and had the baby!
Antonis: Malaka, we didn't have the baby this morning, what are you talking about? Tara's sitting here beside me, we're at the beach malaka. No baby yet.
F: Oh. Malaka, I heard you had the baby
A: are you stupid? if we had the baby we would call you. You're listening to the malakias? (*malakias means bullshit)
F: I don't know malaka, I heard you went to Mytilini
A: yeah, we had an appointment. Everything's fine, the baby's not due until this weekend malaka. Relax! We'll call you when she's here
F: Oh. Ok. How is Tara?
A: She's fine, she's having some pain but she's ok
F: MALAKA IF SHE'S IN PAIN WHY DID YOU COME BACK FROM MYTILINI???? THE BABY IS COMING!!

...and then Antonis proceeded to explain what actually happens during labour and childbirth (because he's an expert now! I mean that, I'm not making fun of him, I'm impressed with how much he's paying attention) to calm his friend down. The word 'malaka' was thrown around a few more times and then they hung up.

Anyway, the point is that the majority of the village thought we had the baby yesterday...which we did NOT, just to further clarify that.

Here's what actually happened yesterday:

Yes we went to Mytilini to visit the doctor. He checked the baby's position and said that she's still not quite low enough to be ready for delivery, but he's still feeling confident that she'll be here on or around her due date. Actually he feels like it will be the 25th, which is this Saturday. Saturday is also the day that my parents, my brother and my brother's girlfriend arrive so that should be an interesting day! I won't even get into the sequence of events I've imagined should I be delivering Eleni just as my family comes running into the maternity wing, suitcases flying behind them, breathless and hair a mess as they're asking everyone in sight where I am, but no one will speak English to them and they're panicking when suddenly....I come walking out of the delivery room with Eleni and everything and everyone freezes....yes I did get into the imagined sequence of events, but that's only a fraction of it so I did manage to hold back a little...

Anyway, getting back to the important stuff! The doctor expects that Eleni will still arrive by her due date, which is this weekend. She's growing really well. REALLY well actually, she's about 3.5kg now, which is 7 lbs 7 oz. We did another non-stress cardio test and her heart was perfect. I refilled my iron supplement prescription. And finally Dr. Provenzas said that if the baby hasn't come by this weekend that we'll visit him again on Monday so he can check on her and make sure she's still ok. And despite what all the gossipers will say, Monday will still just be an APPOINTMENT!

Sometimes I really wonder what people are thinking or where they get their information from. I have been asked probably a hundred times "when will the baby be born?" Are you asking me that because you think I have a feeling when she's going to be born? Do you think she's told me when she wants to come out? Do you think my doctor's a psychic? I don't get it! The baby comes when the baby comes people! You're given a due date, but it's just an estimate! 50% of first time mom's deliver after the estimated due date so it's really not that surprising that Eleni isn't here yet. And despite how many times I have told people "she's due on the 24th" I still get asked about 15 times a day "she's not here yet?!"...then my head spins around in circles like the girl on the exorcist, my eyes pop out of my head and I scream...

I'M NOT EVEN DUE YET!!!
Chill the F#&$ out!
Idiot!

Ok none of that actually happens. That's what happens in my head but on the outside I just fake smile and say "she's due on Friday'"

It's also annoying to get emails and facebook messages asking "have you had that baby yet?".....have I told you I've had the baby yet? No. So no, I have not had the baby yet. When I have the baby I will tell you, until then please stop asking. Yes, I can admit that maybe I'm the one who needs to chill the f#*@ out but I'm sure you can understand that it's just annoying answering the same question all day long every single day. There. I said it. I love you all but please stop driving me crazy. It's not really you that's making me crazy, it's my completely out of control hormones, but obviously they're in the driver's seat at the moment and there's not much I can do about that other than hang on tight until the ride's over.

I realize this post is a little aggressive today with the overuse of capital letters and exclamation points. Sorry guys! Besides the crazy hormones I'm actually completely exhausted today because even though I just ranted about how the baby's not even due yet and blah blah blah, I was up all night having contractions. They stopped around 5am and they weren't "grab the bags it's time to go!" painful but they were uncomfortable enough to keep me awake and reading Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth (I'm reading it for the 2nd time...awesome book!). According to a lot of the birth stories in the book, it's not uncommon to 'labour' for even 2 weeks before a baby is born. It's not the kind of labour you see in the movies where the woman is screaming in pain and telling her husband she's going have his testicles surgically removed, but basically it's what I've been dealing with since last Saturday....mild contractions and cramping on a daily basis. So I'm agreeing with the doctor that she'll be here by this weekend or sometime this week.

Actually at the appointment while I was hooked up to the machine that monitors the baby's heart rate, I noticed there was another little box that was monitoring my uterine contractions. I wasn't sure if that was what it was for but every time I had a contraction the number would go up from 0 to 7 or 12, it even got to 20 one time. Anyway, I asked the male nurse (yes, the fact that he was a he and not a she is important here) what that box was for and he confirmed that, yes that is monitoring your uterine contractions. So I asked him if it was ok that I was measuring around a '12' fairly consistently. He said,

"Yes, that's completely normal. When you are here to deliver the baby, that box will read up to 98 or 99....and then you'll REALLY be in pain hahahahahahahaha"

Yes. He laughed. Once again I retreated into my imagination, and this is what happened:

"Really? That's funny? You think that's F.U.N.N.Y? Malaka?? No I don't think it is actually. You know what I do think is funny? Cat's with mustaches.
Catstache - ahhhh!! <3
BOOM!
Now that's hilarious!
But your little 98, 99 pain scale...NOT FUNNY AT ALL!"
*And then I gave him a wedgie he'll never forget!*

But of course that's not actually what happened. What really happened was I fake laughed along with his laugh and then glared at his back as he walked out of the room. If only he knew......

Ok, well my scattered brain can't really deal with today anymore so I think I'll lie down and try to take a nap.  In the mean time, keep watching for the 'MMMM, I love cheese!' status update on facebook because it seems like we're getting closer to that time! YAY!

Close, But No Cigar

I thought my water broke yesterday.

Not all the way. Just a little sploosh.

Before I get into this story I think it's best for everyone's nerves if I ruin the ending a bit and tell you now, it was a false alarm. VERY false alarm. But I think the story is still worth telling....

So around 7pm last night I decided that the only thing I could possibly eat for dinner was a vegetarian stir-fry. Absolutely nothing else would do. But of course I didn't have anything in the house to make a vegetarian stir-fry...don't ask me how it's possible that I didn't have rice or vegetables in the house but anyway, I didn't. Yes I have one full cupboard devoted entirely to potato chips but no I do not have even one carrot or a grain of rice. Don't judge me.

So off I go to the supermarket.

As I'm standing in front of the baskets of produce trying to decide what I need, suddenly I feel something wet splash the inside of my left leg, just above me knee.

I completely froze.

No way. It couldn't be! Could it?

Trying to act casual I grabbed a couple of sad looking zucchini's that clearly wore the effects of the day's heat. I had to. The guy that owns the supermarket was standing right in front of me and I didn't want him to know that in about 10 seconds I was about to create a flash flood in front of his store that would damage everything in sight. All of his carefully stacked tomatoes and onions would be washed down to the bottom of the hill and pulverized into an inedible mess of Road Tomato Sauce.

Then...I dropped my keys. Great! Being the helpful shop keeper he is, he of course bends down to pick them up for me. Oh my God, PLEASE let him come up dry! Do not let the flood gates open now and wash him down the hill with all of his vegetables!

Isn't it strange how in mere seconds you can conjure up a huuuuuge amount of thoughts and images? Like, bending down to pick up a key takes..what...3 seconds? Yet I managed to visualize my water breaking, Niagara Falls, the force of the water taking his feet out from underneath him, sending him tumbling and drowning down the street with all of his baskets of vegetables and fruit in waves so big professional surfers probably wouldn't have the guts to ride. Does anyone else do this? Anyone.....?.........

Anyway, as he bent down to pick up my key nothing happened of course. But I did manage to get a look at the ground finally, which I'd been avoiding. Sure enough, there was a puddle there but it was really small. Totally not what I expected to see.

Well then, it couldn't have possibly been the start of my water breaking could it? It didn't feel like that much water at all. There's the teeny tiny puddle of evidence. More importantly....and I apologize because this is about to be to much information for most of you....I didn't actually feel anything come out, if you know what I mean. I'm sure you'd feel it come out, right? But maybe you don't. I don't know, I'm new at this!

So still trying to act cool and casual, yet inwardly panicking beyond belief, I move over to the fruit section to continue to think this over. I considered dropping everything and getting home as fast as I could to avoid the embarrassment of  my water breaking in public. That's a story that no one around here would EVER stop talking about. Ever! But my craving for a vegetarian stir-fry wouldn't let me back out now.

I picked up some nectarines (an impulse buy) and then headed inside to grab my rice, but I had to take one last look at the puddle before going in.

And there it was. Just like the end of cheesy mystery novel, the truth was revealed.

A smooshed grape.

I had stepped on a grape and the grape juice had squirted up my leg and all over the road. One lonely grape that had gotten loose from the rest was laying in the road and as I had reached for a bag to collect my vegetables for the stir-fry, I stepped on it with so much force that it exploded...thus, leading me to believe that my water had broken.

This might be a sign that I'm a little over excited for Eleni to arrive. It might also be a sign that the pregnancy insomnia is having a slight effect on me.

In my defense it was a really big grape.

Anyway, I promised to show you some pictures of my new gorgeous ocean view. So here they are!

This will be the perfect place to have a glass of wine at the end of the day...after the baby gets here of course...and after she goes to sleep...

It's still a bit of a mess next door but I'm sure they'll clean it up

I really liked this wall though. I've always secretly thought it's the perfect place for fairies to live

More fairy kingdom....

But sadly, they're ripping down the fairy castle as we speak. Oh well, it's 2012 so maybe they'd like to consider a nice condo with air conditioning instead...

Bump Watch 2012

Well that was annoying.

I set up my camera so I could do a video blog for today and not more than 30 seconds in...the battery dies.

It was gonna be a good one too. I've been watching a lot of My Drunk Kitchen, Jenna Marbles and You Deserve a Drink on YouTube today. I WAS feeling motivated...and a little spunky...but thanks to my loser camera, that ship has sailed so we're back to the good old fashioned 'typing until you feel the carpel tunnel acting up' method.

I haven't really been in the mood to write lately thanks to just plain laziness. Whatever. Laziness...yet another thing I can add to the list of 'Shit I Can Get Away With Because I'm Pregnant, Haha Suckers!' But I told myself it was important to get off my butt and do something productive this evening, so I chose to update my blog. It was either this or figuring out how to use my new breast pump. The breast pump looked painful and actually I don't think I'm ready to find out if I can actually pump anything out of my breasts at this point. I shouldn't be able to because technically the milk doesn't come in until a day or two after the baby's born, but there is something called colostrum that can leak out before then...whatever it is, I'm just not into it tonight so THE BLOG WINS! (shocking...)

Speaking of leaky breasts, are you guys aware of how many other uncomfortable/embarrassing/painful/just not cool and totally unfair side effects are possible during pregnancy? A LOT! Here's a few:

  • excessive gas
  • constipation
  • diarrhea
  • indigestion
  • hemroids
  • excessive sweating
  • vomiting
  • the leaky breasts we were talking about before
  • sore breasts
  • swollen ankles
  • swollen hands
  • swollen face
  • swollen everything
  • of course, the weight gain which may be weight gain or it could be swelling but at some point you just can't even tell anymore
  • an awful metallic taste in your mouth
  • excessive discharge
  • yeast infections
  • congestion, which means a lot of extra snot and eye goobers to deal with first thing in the morning
...and the list goes on and on and on and on. Luckily we don't have to experience all of the side effects, and thankfully most of them come and go without being a nuisance for the entire 9 months. Lately I've had one symptom in particular that has really not been fun....but since I'm a lady, I'm not going to reveal which one it is. And before you start trying to guess, it might not even be on this list. Anyhoo, it sucks and it's embarrassing and totally uncomfortable and after a week of trying to cope and hope it would just go away, I broke down and went to the doctor on Monday. It's nothing to worry about, it's not going to harm me or the baby at all, and the doctor was able to prescribe something to ease the discomfort so that was nice and everything is going to be just fine. But unfortunately, my mother-in-law called while we were at the doctor, so she found out we were there and now she just can't seem to accept that we don't want to share with her why we were there. I really don't want to talk about my mother-in-law on here again so I'm just going to leave it at that but I think you can all appreciate that I'm just completely baffled as to what the hell has taken over my sweet, loving, wonderful mother-in-law these days and turned her into this stressed out, bossy person.  I completely understand that she's over the moon excited about her first grandbaby arriving any day now....but really? Maybe grandparents experience some not fun pregnancy side effects too...like craziness.

Anyway, that's what's been happening this week.

Also our neighbours decided to cut down some completely useless trees in their backyard. At first I was less than impressed by their chainsaws at 9am on a day when I was actually able to sleep until that time (and possibly even past that had they not started up the chainsaws) but then when I saw the results.....all was forgiven. We now have the most beautiful view of the Aegean Sea and the coast line and Rabbit Island...it's gorgeous! I had planned to take the camera outside and show it to you but....remember the dead battery? So instead I'll have to wait until tomorrow to take some photos. Or maybe I'll feel motivated enough to still do a video blog and I'll just show it to you there...we'll see, either way I'll show you our new ocean view from our balcony very soon.

And now, I thought it would be interesting to end today's post with a series of belly shots so we can see the progression of the growing bump over the past 9 months. I like to call this piece:

Bump Watch 2012

12 weeks/ 3 months

16 weeks/ 4 months

about 22 weeks/ 5 1/2 months

about 26 weeks/ 6 1/2 months

 33 weeks/ about 8 months

This is today! 38 weeks and 5 days/ 9 months and waiting!!

How funny to compare the difference in 6 months! I'm HUGE! It's so amazing what the body is able to do! You know what else is amazing? Somehow I'm wearing the same bra in both of these photos (but I'll admit, it's so tight right now I might not even need the breast pump!) Also, I don't have a single stretch mark. I'm not sure how I managed to get away with that, but I'm knocking on wood right now so I don't jinx myself since I'm not quite in the clear yet.

Sometimes it feels like the last 9 months have flown by, and other times it's like it just won't end. But it is going to end. Very soon. And looking back over these pictures is bringing back a lot of moments that I haven't thought about in a while because I've been so preoccupied with thinking about what delivery will be like and when it will happen. It's a little emotional thinking about all the firsts: the first kicks and flutters, the first ultra sound, the first time we heard her heart beat, telling everyone for the first time. Even all the doctor's appointments and the morning sickness seem like good memories now. Discovering that she gets quite excited when we go swimming and when we listen to Greek music...laughing about how she's going to be a beach bum and Greek dancing machine one day. So much has happened. It's been 9 months. 9 months! Back in December when I first found out I was pregnant I thought about what it would be like in August, waiting for her to arrive. When I thought about it then, I'll be honest I was so scared....but now I'm living in that moment that I thought about back in December and I just can't wait! I'm a little nervous I guess, but not really. Mostly I just feel like it's finally time to see her and hold her.

Ok, she just head butted me in the cervix. I think that means she agrees with me.

Baby Boom and Awkward Moments

It's been a big week for babies! My cousin Halle had her baby yesterday, a little girl named Charley Mae (I have to double check on the spelling). Also a friend of mine since....25 years ago WOW, how am I even old enough to talk about anything that was 25 years ago?...anyway, Erin, had a little boy on the 2nd. His name is Jackson Douglas (I have to check the spelling of this too). Jack for short. Everybody is healthy and happy.

My turn! My turn! I'm so excited now, I can't wait for Eleni to get here! Every time I get any kind of tightening or pain in my back or belly...this is going to sound weird but...the more it hurts the more excited I get because 'maybe this is it!'.

Other than getting excited over every little ache and pain, nothing much is going on around here the last few days. I'm still anxiously waiting for the baby stuff I ordered to arrive....typical Greek postal service. When they say it'll be there on Monday, expect it on Thursday, Friday, maybe Monday next week. Oh well, they've assured me I'll have everything by tomorrow. Of course that's the second time they've said that. But I'm sure they mean it this time....

Lets just hope it gets here before the baby does.

We went to the beach today and discovered the pistachios are ready! YUUUUUMMMY! Unfortunately I forgot my camera today but I'll bring it along tomorrow so I can get some photos of that.

I had an EXTREMELY awkward moment with my mother-in-law today.

First of all I should tell you that I never get awkward. In fact I get super annoyed with how everyone under the age of 30 insists on using the phrase "Awkwaaaaard" at least 18 times a day and how they believe that in that moment that things truly are awkward. News flash Younger Generation...that moment is so NOT awkward. You are creating the awkwardness by acting like that. All you have to do is just come up with something wittier to say than "awkwaaaard" and everything will be fine. And while you're at it, pull your damn pants up, I'm sick of looking at your butt crack.

Anyway, so even though I never get awkward ever...I will admit today definitely included a horrific moment of awkwardness that I wish never happened.

Olympia stopped by this afternoon to drop off a present from Antonis' cousin Maria. Maria lives in Athens but comes home to Molyvos every summer for a month or so, and when she does she always brings us a gift. So, I opened my gift while Olympia was here because I got the impression she was curious about what was inside. When I peaked in the bag I saw a t-shirt....that's safe enough...so I pulled it out of the bag. It was actually a t-shirt nightgown. No big deal, just a pink cotton night gown. Nothing embarrassing about that. But as I unfolded the nightgown to get a better look at it....a pair of purple lace underwear fell out.

Ok, this still shouldn't be that big of a deal. They really weren't that racy. They were fancier than your usual Fruit of the Loom but definitely not stripper-esque. They're cute and quite classy actually and I know Maria just wanted to get me something nice to make me feel better after I lose some baby weight. She's had 2 kids and she's young enough to understand how much it sucks to have to wear giant granny panties for so many months. My mother-in-law however comes from the generation that probably invented the granny pantie....so this little purple number got quite a reaction.

First she did a lot of "ohhhhhh, ahhhhh hahahaha, ohhhhhh".

That was awkward enough. But it didn't stop there.

Then she picked them up to get a better look. That REALLY sucked so I took that time to examine my new nightgown in great detail.

Then she put them down and I thought 'ok, it's over now' so I looked up and made eye contact thinking we could move on to something else completely....but she looks right at me and says

"SEX!"

Oh. my. God.

No. no. no. no. no. no. no. no. no this so didn't just happen. Please tell me I'm hearing things. I'm totally not hearing things. OH MY GAWD NO!. Look away look away look away, do not make eye contact do not make eye contact. If I run into the street screaming everyone will think I've just gone into labour and it won't actually be that weird. Get to the door. Quick get to the door. I can't get to the door, she's standing in front of the door and she's still looking at me waiting for me reaction to her "Sssse..." no no no no no I can't even say it, she didn't say it, omg she so said it WHY WHY WHY WHYWHY?? Oh god I can't breathe. She's still waiting for a reaction, what's my reaction? Just laugh it off and ask her if she wants coffee, no don't offer coffee because then she'll be here longer and that word she said will be hanging in the air the whole time, what the hell do I do she's looking at me, nope it's too late now, you can't react now or else it'll be more awkward, I waited way too long. F*@#!!!!!

I wanted to die.

I couldn't even look at her. I picked everything up, stuffed it back in the bag and waddled away as fast as I could. But my house is small and there aren't that many places to get away....and I waddle....so I just left everything in the kitchen, including her, and went and sat on the couch.

And I'm not a prude. I don't have a problem talking about sex but NEVER EVER EVER EVER with my mother-in-law. NOT EVER! I'm going to wear out the Caps Lock key if I keep explaining how much I'm not cool with this conversation happening so I should just stop talking about this...also I'm hindering my process of regressing the horrible memory of today to somewhere deep in the depths my subconscious where I can never access it again.

She eventually followed me into the living room, sat next to me on the couch and somehow we managed to move onto other, more normal, subjects. So everything was fine eventually.

Anyway, I don't know about you guys but I've had a rough day. So I'll leave you with a couple pictures of a cute little gecko I found stuck to the outside of my window, and then I'm off to bed.

So cute!

He was a little shy though

And one last picture in real time...this is what I look like this very moment as I'm writing to all of you.
You can see that my belly has dropped which is a sign that baby will be here soon!
You can also see that the water retention is threatening to take over my whole body...it's not just in my feet and hands anymore but in my face too.
Oh well.
We're almost there!

Good night!

Bassinets and Boredom

Well after 2 days of back and stomach pain and cramping and just overall feeling crappy, things seem to have gone back to normal. As 'normal' as I can be these days anyway. So Baby Watch 2012 is still in progress, although progress may not be the appropriate word to use. No big deal since my due date isn't for another 17 days anyway........HOLY $!*# MY DUE DATE IS IN 17 DAYS!!!! I hadn't actually counted the days until right now. That's a little shocking to see. Huh. Ok well anyway as I was saying, it's not really such a big deal that nothing is happening yet since we haven't actually hit my due date yet. But after having a couple days of really feeling like 'this is it!' it's sort of frustrating to now be thinking 'that wasn't it'.

I'm just excited I guess.

Today we picked up the bassinet from Antonis' parent's house!

Here's what baby Eleni will be sleeping in when she comes home!

It's so exciting to think of our little baby sound asleep in there!

That's also some of the blankets that Olympia has made for her. Eleni will definitely not be short on blankets or sheets! Both my mom and Antonis' mom have made quilts for her, I think 2 of my aunts have made quilts as well, and Olympia gave me a stack of about 10 sheets and 2 winter blankets.
I took the bassinet liner out as soon as we got home and put it in the washing machine. I heard that if you sleep with the baby sheets, they'll smell like you which will calm the baby and help her sleep easier. I don't know, maybe that sounds like crazy talk but as soon as the bassinet liner dries I plan on sleeping with it
Don't tell Antonis! He already thinks I'm insane...

Other than picking up the bassinet, nothing new is going on. I'm bored out of my mind actually. I haven't been to the beach in 3 days because we've been too busy. I say 'we' because I can't really go to the beach by myself these days. It's so annoying but I need a chaperon basically anywhere I go now, just in case. Of course I have my cell phone but that doesn't really help if I suddenly go into labour while I'm swimming and I have to try to get back to the beach to call Antonis to come get me. It's pretty doubtful that things would happen so fast that I'd be just swimming along and then BAM! it's baby time! But you never know so it's better to be careful.....oh blah blah blah actually it's just easier not having to deal with everyone freaking out at me for going swimming by myself so that's the real reason that I don't do it.

I swear, everyone else is way more nervous than I am.

They really need to chill out.

Speaking of chilling out, have you heard of watermelon ice cubes? (ohhhhhh and she pulls off the segway! Yes it's a super lame segway but I just couldn't help myself!)

As I've mentioned a few times before, I have a slight addiction to Pinterest. I now have about 10 billion brilliant ideas as to how to redecorate my house, throw the perfect party, cook the best meal ever and how to put together the wardrobe of my dreams. The kicker is....I probably won't bother to put even a 1/4 of these ideas into action. Which is really too bad because turning an old door into a corner shelf really does look like a great idea...

I do get adventurous once and while and try some of these ideas out though. Like using lemon and olive oil for dusting (AMAZING!), using shower curtain hooks to organize your scarves or belts onto one clothes hanger (my closet never looked better), storing sheets inside their matching pillow case (my linen closet never looked better), homemade body scrub (heavenly!) and various recipes that just looked too delicious and too easy to not try.

But not all of these 'brilliant' ideas are that brilliant.

Some of them you can tell immediately that they're going to be a disaster.
For example: Braided Spaghetti Bread.

So this is spaghetti baked inside braided garlic bread. You look at this and you think "what a great idea!" (after deciding that this is clearly just a 'once and while' dish like when you're carb loading for a 10km run...or you're hungover and you just don't care how terrible it is for you). And it clearly worked for some people, or else there wouldn't be a bunch of pictures that look like this:

Spaghetti Baked in Garlic Bread

But the trick with Pinterest is not to get over excited. Know yourself and be honest about your talents. I know if I even dared to venture down this spaghetti bread road, my efforts would turn out like this:

But sometimes you look at a Pinterest idea and you just can't see where it could possibly go wrong....And then you try it.....and then you realize that there are a lot of lying bastards on Pinterest.

Watermelon ice cubes

Looks delicious doesn't it? Refreshing! The perfect summer drink to serve to guests when they drop by.

WRONG! Because it ends up looking like this:

As it melts you get watermelon bits stuck all over the glass and all over the inside of your straw. Eventually the whole drink looks cloudy and gross, like you scooped it out of a puddle from outside.
Not pretty.

And it doesn't taste like anything. They say it does but it totally doesn't.

Why am I spending so much time complaining about watermelon ice cubes?

Because I just cut up an entire half a watermelon and waited 2 hours for it to freeze so I could try this out.

And it sucked!

Also, I told you I'm bored out of my mind and I have nothing else going on these days because everyone treats me like I'm a complete invalid and they don't let me do anything! So I'm taking out my frustrations on the poor person who thought it was a great idea to 'invent' watermelon ice cubes. I mean, what the hell?! You totally made these, saw that they were a complete failure but you posted it on Pinterest anyway as if it was the best idea since the wheel. COME ON!!

Lets all hope this baby gets here soon so I don't have the time to make anymore Pinterest recipes and allow my hormones to unintelligently critique them.

Crashing

Don't worry, I didn't title this post Crashing because of an accident....I'm just exhausted from being awake all last night and I might have overdone it on the sugar today. Ok, not might have. I definitely overdid it on the sugar today. Put the two together and I'll be lucky if I make through this post without falling asleep on the computer.

I'll start by confessing my horrible eating choices again. When was the last time we had this discussion? A week ago? Not even? I seriously have zero self control these days. First of all....I ate another chocolate croissant today. That puts us at a count of about 4,982 chocolate croissants in total for the last 9 months (kidding! I think....). It wasn't even for breakfast either, it was an in-between-breakfast-and-lunch-snack when I usually only let myself have a piece of fruit! But I had a partner in crime today so it felt like a perfectly acceptable thing to do (Charlotte mou, it was so nice talking all things BABY related with you today! I'm so glad you're 'home' for a few weeks so we can be pregnant and dying of the heat together!). You would think that the chocolate croissant would have fixed my new found sweet tooth for the day but.....NOPE! After a very healthy, delicious and filling salad for dinner I was dying for something sweet so I had a small bowl of cereal. Well that didn't work. Then I proceeded to eat 6 Oreos! I probably should have just gone straight for the Oreos. Lets be honest, why was I even bothering with the cereal anyway? I'm not even going to go to my calorie counter website today because I don't want to know the damage I've done. I can congratulate myself a little though because my mother-in-law offered me an apricot spoon sweet while I was over for a visit tonight and I turned it down....actually that doesn't deserve much of a congratulations because I hate spoon sweets anyway. A traditional Greek spoon sweet is a fruit (or sometimes a vegetable or nut) that's basically 'pickled' in mass amounts of sugar. It's called a spoon sweet because the serving size is usually just a little more than a teaspoon...you can't handle much more than that anyway because it's SO ridiculously sweet that your teeth will yell "screw you!" and shoot up into your gums to hide otherwise. Although I have to admit she does make one with cherries that is really yummy over yogurt...actually she does a pumpkin one and zucchini one also that are pretty good with yogurt. The pumpkin and zucchini is cut into matchstick-like pieces...what's the fancy cooking name for that? Julienne? Whatever, it's cut into slivers and after it's 'sugar pickled' it gets kind of crunchy. Ok I guess I don't hate all spoon sweets but don't tell her that or else my house will be full of  jars of cherry, zucchini and pumpkin in sticky sweet syrup by the end of the weekend. And, like I said, I have zero self control these days.

Yeah, so that happened today.

The funny thing is that I went on Pinterest about 10 minutes ago and pinned about 5 or 6 really healthy recipes onto my recipe board...somehow that made me feel better. I haven't tried them. I don't even intend to try them anytime soon. But maybe my Pinterest followers will notice that I'm 'totally into vegetarian and vegan dishes' and they'll think I'm super healthy....that's what made me feel better. And yes I realize that most of my Pinterest followers are you guys so I'm completely ruining my warped logic by blogging about my super UNhealthy eating habits, but somehow this also makes me feel better for thinking it's perfectly ok to manifest a Pinterest persona.

Good thing I got that Psychology degree!

Anyway, the other reason I'm crashing is because I didn't sleep at all last night. I think I drifted off a couple of times but when I looked at the clock again only about 20 minutes had gone by. So not cool! But I had some contractions again so I was wondering if last night was going to be THE night. It wasn't. Of course. I'm  writing this from home, not a hospital bed. But after the contractions last Saturday and then more again last night, I'm really thinking Eleni is on her way here soon. So that's why I couldn't sleep. I was kind of waiting to figure out if I was going into real labour or if it was just the fake stuff again (for those of you who haven't heard of this before, your uterus 'practices' going into labour sometimes...it's a real treat).

While I was trying to figure out if I was in labour, I started thinking about this mother-in-law issue again so that didn't help me get to sleep either. I'm still not sure how we're going to deal with this but Antonis and I talked about it again last night....that really didn't go well, he was way to tired to deal with it and it ended up in an argument. But we talked about it a little bit today too and I think we made a tiny bit of progress. As far as it looks like right now, his parents will most likely be at the hospital from beginning to end because there isn't really any other way around it...they're going to find out whether we call them or not and they're going to come even if we tell them not too. But he's still perfectly fine with asking everyone to leave the room when I want some space so I just have to make sure I speak up for myself and say when I want some space (as if that will be a problem!). Also I told him that I really want at least an hour with just him and I and Eleni immediately after she's born. This is a bit of a strange thing to ask for here. They just don't do it. That's the moment that everyone attacks you and gets all up in your face because WE ALL just had a baby and WE ALL want to take pictures of you and her and WE ALL need to hold her and even though you haven't really had a chance to hold her yet new mommy (I know this can be a universal thing, not just a Greek thing)....ohhh I'm starting to get a bit fired up, I better do some yoga breathing......ok that's better.... Anyway, I explained that this is something in our culture that we feel is really important, that to get that space to bond with the baby as just us as a family is really good for the baby and for us. Also I told him that one of my cousin's asked for a whole week of space so by me asking for just an hour...I really don't think I'm asking for much.

aaaaaaand this is where I suddenly woke up about half an hour later and realized that I'd fallen asleep in the middle of this post.

The rest of this is from this morning...not that it matters I just think it's funny that I actually DID fall asleep on my computer when I'd been joking about it just before.

Anyway, so getting back to the mother-in-law issue. Yeah, I still don't know if we'll discuss this with them before I go into labour or if we'll just do things our way when the time comes and they'll just have to go along with it. It's definitely going to cause a problem either way. Last night I went to their house and it was brought up again. But this time it was my father in law. My mother in law told him not to worry about it because I already understood what was going to happen because she had already discussed it with me the night before. Funny I don't remember any discussing happening...(hmmm is it getting hot in here?). Then she told me about when she had Antonis and Lefteris and who was there when she gave birth. Basically it was a ton of my father in law's family. Somehow I managed to bite my tongue and say nothing. Normally I wouldn't. Normally I don't have a problem talking about anything that's bothering me but now that I'm so close to delivering this baby and my hormones are through the roof, it's a lot safer to just not venture into conversations like that right now. I think. Besides, if I started arguing with them about it I'd probably go into labour right in front of them and then my plan to sneak away to hospital would be totally ruined! So I thought about puppies and rainbows and just smiled. Also I kind of think if we talk about this with them now that it will become a problem now AND while we're at the hospital. So then we're dealing with the backlash of this twice. It might be easier while we're at the hospital just to be like "ok, now you have to leave the room because Tara wants some space" and while I'm in delivery Antonis can say, "it's important in Tara's culture to leave us alone for an hour or so after the baby's born so why don't you guys go to the cafe across the street and come back at 'whatever' o'clock". Also, then it's just Antonis dealing with it and I don't have to which, again, I think is just safer right now. Although who knows, I might have absolutely no problem screaming at anyone and everyone to get the f*$& away from me and out of my room while I'm in labour....but that's just hormones and pain talking. No one will get upset about that. Right?

One thing I do think we'll need to discuss before the big day though is that no one is to call anyone to tell them we're in the hospital and the baby is on the way. No aunts and uncles, no cousins, no DISTANT aunts uncles and cousins, no friends, no neighbours, no neighbours from distant aunts uncles and cousins (you think I'm exaggerating that one but I'm not), NO ONE. They can absolutely call anyone they want once Eleni is born but while we're waiting....those cell phones are mine. Kidding, I'm not going to confiscate anyone's phone. But I do want it to be understood that I really can't handle having The Big Fat Greek Birth. This also means.....I won't be announcing anything on facebook when I'm packing up and leaving for the hospital. But don't worry, I have a plan....

When I go into labour, just before we leave the house I'll log onto facebook and write in my status:
"Mmmmm, I love cheese!!"
...that's the code for "We're going to the hospital now, stay tuned for an announcement soon" So please please please when you see that status update, please remember that it's a code for a reason and don't comment anything about babies or else I'm going to have the whole of Lesvos running to my hospital bed. Feel free to 'like' it, feel free to make witty comments, absolutely feel free to just smile to yourself knowing that you're in on the big secret. Whatever you like. Also, if anyone does slip up (which I don't think anyone will but I'm being extra cautious anyway) and you notice that a comment might seem to be alluding too much to what's going on, please have my back and write something in response that will dig us out of that hole. I won't have access to internet for the whole time I'm at the hospital so I won't be able to check or delete anything.

I do have some Greek friends here that read my blog once and a while but I think I might be safe now that I've written a ton before this part. I've already been told that I write too much and it gives them a headache to have to translate so much so they're not hardcore fans. Honestly, that was a sincere apology from one of my Greek friends because she felt bad for not reading my blog on a regular basis. I wasn't bothered at all, in fact I laughed hysterically when she said "it gives me a headache" hahaha! Like "I love you and I support anything you do but yeeeeeeah it gives me a headache...sorry!" haha! Also I'm not going to put any pictures in today so there's an even better chance they'll just skip over today's post completely. Sneaky sneaky! The ones that do read this, I know you understand why I need to do things this way and that it's NOT because I have anything against your culture or my in laws or anything like that. It's 100% that I want to have as little stress as possible so that Eleni can be born safely. If I'm stress free I'll cope with the pain and the experience in a much more positive way and that means she will have a far better chance of being delivered naturally and easily without any kind of interventions that can potentially stress her out and put her tiny little body in danger. The reality of this is, I'm a first timer. I have absolutely no idea what to expect about delivering a baby so I'm going to have some stress, naturally. But for the situations that I know will cause more stress...the situations that I have the ability to control...that's what I have to do. I have to do everything I can possibly do to make sure she arrives safely.

Ok. I think that's all for today. Good talk guys, good talk. I feel like we accomplished something here today. We had a little therapy session about food. We discussed some concerns about how to mesh two cultures when a baby is being born. We even played the role of James Bond a little bit. Good stuff!

Have a great weekend!

Picture Day!

Good news! I finally remembered to take my camera out of my beach bag and get a picture of our new car for you guys. YAY ME! That only took about 2 weeks......

Here it is! It's not sporty and it's not sexy but it's a pretty cool first family car I think!

I actually haven't driven it yet because my giant belly makes it really hard to move normally (like, I can't turn and check my blind spots for example) but I'm happy with it anyway.
We had our first car disagreement the other day though....

My side: Will Smith should NEVER be blasted from any car EVER!
Antonis' side: It's perfectly fine to blast Will Smith, in fact it might even be a little bit cool

It turned out it wasn't Will Smith. It was a free mixed CD that came with the newspaper with random artists on it...but it sounded like Will Smith and he said something about 'getting jiggy'. Even if it's a Will Smith impostor, I still vote we skip that song next time it comes on. Antonis will most likely turn it up just to annoy me.

I think the war has begun.

To be continued.....

In my last post I told you I was making this:

Well....I kinda did...but it looked like this:

Nowhere near as pretty!
But it tasted ok

Here's a link to the original recipe:

I changed it completely though because I pretty much only had eggplant in the fridge...I had some similar ingredients but nothing else was the same

Basically my downfall was the cheese mixture that was meant to be stuffed inside the rolled up eggplant slices, was too runny. It didn't stuff inside anything, it just oozed out the sides and ran all over the baking dish. But that was fine, so then I just added so more of the cheese mixture over the top, poured my tomato sauce over that (which was just sauteed onion and garlic, a can of tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt and pepper all pureed up in the blender...oh, and the cheese mixture was some feta and cream cheese that needed to used up, more basil, oregano, onion, garlic...I think that was it...), and I had some lentils in the fridge so I put that in there too. Oh, and some bread crumbs over the top just because I have a plethora of bread crumbs at the moment. And all of that went into the oven for...I don't know, probably a half hour.

So yeah, final thoughts: it tasted pretty good but if I ever make it again it will be in the winter when I'm craving something like macaroni and cheese, or some kind of comfort food like that. It will NEVER be made for guests because it looks like a dog's breakfast. Overall I give it a 'meh' rating.

I'll definitely try to make stuffed eggplant again though...but maybe next time I'll make sure I have all the correct ingredients instead of experimenting.

Saturday was dinner at the restaurant again with my lovely Johanna, Torsten and Vangelis. No icky experimental food here! And of course Saturday night is Live Greek Music night so that's always fun...we've discovered baby Eleni is especially a fan of Saturday Live Music nights. At first I thought it was just a coincidence that she seemed to move around more when Greek music was on, but she consistently wiggles around whenever there's Greek music. Doesn't matter if it's live or from a CD but live music gets even more of a reaction.
In fact, I had some MASSIVE contractions Saturday night and Antonis and I almost grabbed my bags and headed for the hospital. They calmed down after an hour though...but you can see my belly has dropped significantly now. I had a doctor's appointment on Monday so we told him about it...he said she was looking for a way out which I thought was hilarious. I just pictured her with a little flashlight in her hand, following the sound of the music and looking for the exit.

Anyway, it feels like it shouldn't be long now that she's really made herself at home waaay down in my pelvis (which is not so comfortable for walking but breathing and eating have become a pleasure again), but the doctor still thinks she'll be here right on time, around the 24th, 25th, 26th-ish.....my parents, my brother and his girlfriend get here on the 25th so that might end up being a really exhausting day for them - flying across 2 continents and then delivering a baby. Intense!

Anyway, here's more food shots...not great shots because I can't really lean over the table to get a good view without dipping my belly in the tzatziki but you get the idea...

So we have my favourite pregnancy food: grilled sardines! (actually ice cream is probably my fav right now but sardines are pretty awesome too). The orange stuff at the bottom right is Chicken Tignaia which is basically chicken and peppers in a wine/mustard sauce. SO good! There was Greek salad (of course), some salty sardines, eggplant salad which is AMAZING but super garlicky so you can only eat it as long as everyone else is, fava (which is actually peas, not fava beans but the Greek name for the dish just happens to be fava with no relation to the bean at all) and green beans.
And of course ouzo...but of course I didn't have any of that.
Not long now though!

While we're on the subject of food: here's today's breakfast! Bowl of yogurt with a handful of cereal and a banana, 2 fresh figs and a decaf frappe.

My father in law picked me some figs yesterday because he's the best! My mother in law on the other hand...we're having a bit of an issue right now which I'll tell you all about after the figs. But for now, here's a closer look at fresh figs that we are so unfairly deprived of in Canada!

It's really rare to find fresh figs in Canada and when you do they're so expensive (I have to say that because my Greek friends right now are saying "what the hell is special about the figs? God, that Canadian girl is so weird!). We can get dried figs just about anywhere but even those tend to be really expensive, so long story short Greek friends: you are extremely lucky in the fig department!
To my Canadian friends: if you haven't been to Greece before but you're thinking about it, I recommend paying the extra money to come in August simply so you can pick a fresh fig off a tree and eat it immediately! Yes there are other reasons to come to Greece, but the figs are another reason to add to that list and one which you probably never thought of before.
So worth it!

First you have to peel them though...don't eat the green skin on the outside. It won't hurt you but it tastes weird.

That's what they look like after they're peeled...

And that's what they look like on the inside. Now eat it!
So yummy!
They're really soft and super sticky so make sure you have some wet naps with you. They're not as sweet as when they're dried. Anyway, I love them but you can't go crazy on them because they tend to...hmmm, how do I put this delicately.....well they tend to react in the body the same way as prunes so be careful!

So, to update you on everything that's gone on in the past few days since I last wrote....

First of all the painters came...but there was clearly a miscommunication between Antonis and I because there really wasn't much that was painted correctly. I couldn't be in the house of course because of the paint fumes so I told Antonis everything that needed to be done so he could tell the painters...but I should have written it down I guess.  The worst part of all of it: the babies room was painted the wrong colour!!!

Our bedroom and the bathrooms were done correctly but everything else was not. I really don't understand how that happened because Antonis and I have talked this over a million times. But there were a lot of details that I wanted done so I probably should have written it down for him. It's not such a big deal though, Antonis is going to fix it but it just sucks because I really wanted all of this done before August so I could just relax and wait for the baby. Oh well, ti na kanoume? (basically that means: what can ya do?)

On a positive note: I ordered some stuff for the baby which should be arriving today or on Monday. YAY!! Unfortunately they didn't have the stroller I wanted because it was 50% off and sold out almost immediately. So I'm still stroller-less and we're shopping around but I'm pretty excited for the rest of the stuff to arrive.

Ok, the crappy part...the problem with my mom in law. There's a few things that happened that I'm not happy about and I'm not really sure how to resolve. First of all, last night she informed me that the minute I go into labour that Antonis and I WILL call her immediately and we WILL be driving all together to the hospital. I said "why?"...because I was a little shocked that she was telling me how all this was going to happen without even asking me what I wanted or was comfortable with....and she says "BECAUSE I WANT TO BE THERE TARA!" and she started crying.

Now, I didn't mean to upset her or offend her in anyway at all but clearly I did, which I feel really bad about. But I really really REALLY don't want this. I understand that this is important for her too and she's really excited BUT this is my body and my experience. My issue is that when I'm sick or in pain, I really don't like anyone being near me. It's difficult for me to deal with pain when someone is staring at me...it makes the pain worse actually. I tried to explain this to her...she didn't get my point though because she just kept saying "I will come, I will be there, we go together" again and again. Also, when you're in labour the doctor and nurses 'check you' on a regular basis. I don't care who you are, you don't want your parents in law staring at your hoo-haw while the doctor figures out how many centimeters dilated you are. That's just SO not ok with me. And finally, I really would like to have some time with just Antonis and I and the baby once she's here. I have absolutely no problem with people coming to visit in the hospital after the baby's arrived, but if Antonis and I could just have an hour or two after she's born to have it be just the 3 of us and no one else...I would love that. That's so not going to happen though and I'm really sad about it.

I talked to Antonis about this last night. He was pretty understanding but the reality of it is, even if we don't call them to tell them we're on our way to the hospital...they will find out. Unless it's in the middle of the night, they will find out. Antonis works all the time. We have a family restaurant. If he's not at work, and it's not one of his normal break times; where else is he going to be? At the hospital of course. And he's already said, it doesn't really matter if we ask them to wait until after the baby is born because they will freak out at us for wanting that and they'll drive themselves to the hospital anyway. So fingers crossed I go into labour at like 3am in the morning and deliver almost immediately...then I'll get everything my way. But if that doesn't happen, which is probably pretty likely, Antonis has agreed to respect my wishes and send his mom out of the room if I'm feeling uncomfortable having her there. He looked stressed about it, which of course he would be because this is NOT going to make Olympia happy but the most important thing is to try to have a safe, calm, easy birth and if I'm getting stressed out by anything...the source of that stress has to be dealt with and he knows that's his job during labour. WHEW....I might get in trouble for talking about all of this but I really need to let it out because I've been so stressed thinking about this. It helps a little getting into writing.

We have another problem though. Here's what happens: I'm on the phone with my mom, Olympia comes over because she wants to visit me (this is not a prearranged visit by the way otherwise I wouldn't get on the phone with my mom if I know my mom-in-law is coming over) and even though I tell her I'm on the phone with my mom, long distance, she still stays to have a visit and I have to hang up on my mom. Last night was the fifth time this has happened. Yesterday, after I get off the phone Olympia tells me she was calling me but the phone was busy...but she decided to come over anyway. She also told me that Yorgos told her not to come because I was on the phone. This really upsets me and I find it very disrespectful so I told Antonis about this also....well.....he said that she has told him before that she calls everyday and I don't answer the phone when she calls...

I'm shocked and confused about this. I'm at home everyday. The phone is definitely not ringing. I don't understand why she told her son that I ignore her calls everyday. So he's a little bit upset with me because I brought up the 'she interrupts my time with my mom, can you please mention to her this isn't very nice' topic, but he's been thinking I've been ignoring all of her calls because that's what she's told him is happening. She told me on Saturday night that she had called because she wanted to come over...but I was at the restaurant with Johanna and Torsten and Vangelis. She and Yorgos came later on and sat with us. But obviously you can't classify that as ignoring a call when I'm not at home to get the call (I'm rarely not at home these days though now that I'm massively pregnant)...but is this what she means? I really don't know, like I said I'm totally confused by all of this and honestly I'm pretty upset about it. I don't want to put Antonis in the middle of it either because it's just stupid and he has enough on his mind right now so it's probably best just to leave it. I'm hoping it's just some sort of silly misunderstanding...maybe they need to get a new phone? Maybe I need to get a new phone, who knows! Anyway, I normally have a VERY good relationship with my mother in law and I count myself extremely lucky that I don't have to deal with the typical 'Greek mother in law issues' that I hear about from some of my friends. I'm sure this will all get sorted out and everything will be fine soon.

Now I think I'll call down to the restaurant and find out if our baby stuff has arrived yet YAY FOR NEW BABY STUFF!!!!
